Since 2011, Petagogy has donated more than 7,000 lbs of pet food to local shelters and animal welfare organizations.
We strive to be active members of the animal, Pittsburgh and Greensburg communities. We partner with and support many community organizations and rescue groups—including the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce, Humane Animal Rescue, Animal Friends, Senior Pet and Animal Rescue, Biggies Bullies and The Proper Pit Bull to name just a few—with food drives, donation events, supply drives, gift basket donations and sponsorships. We also participate in many events hosted by these organizations all over the city. Although we host and participate in new initiatives each year, there are several events and programs to which we always lend our support:
Adoption Events – We host in-store adoption events for local foster-based rescues, including Wayward Whiskers, Forever Home Beagle Rescue, Steel City Greyhounds, Biggies Bullies and Senior Pet and Animal Rescue (SPAAR). These events allow smaller, all-volunteer rescues without facilities to spread the word about the wonderful animals in their care that are available for adoption.
Holiday Pet Food Drives – Every December we host a food drive benefiting Humane Animal Rescue at Petagogy Shadyside and a Westmoreland County rescue at Petagogy Greensburg. For every pound or can of food purchased that day, we donate an equivalent amount to the animals waiting for their forever homes at the chosen shelters. In the last seven years we’ve donated more than 5,000 pounds of dry food and nearly 2,000 cans!
Animal Friends Giving Tree – Every year, from November 15 through December 31, customers can select an ornament from our Animal Friends Giving Tree and purchase much-needed supplies, including pet food, toys, treats and cat litter, for the homeless dogs, cats and rabbits living at Animal Friends.
Bark Shadyside – We worked with the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce to secure a Biz Buzz grant from the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 2013. Funds from this grant were used to create the annual Bark Shadyside Pup Walk, a 1.5 mile dog walk and event featuring pet vendors and activities, held in April and benefiting Humane Animal Rescue. The funds were also used to develop a new website for the Chamber, www.thinkshadyside.com, which features a list of dog-friendly stores and restaurants in Shadyside; install poo bag dispensers throughout Shadyside; and provide Bark Shadyside-branded water bowls to businesses along Walnut Street and Ellsworth Avenue.
Hungry Hippo’s Pet Food Pantry – We proudly sponsor and serve as a drop off location for Hungry Hippo’s Pet Food Pantry, an outreach program of Biggies Bullies that provides high-quality, nutritious pet food to families in need in the greater Pittsburgh region. Learn more at www.biggiesbullies.com
Run Around the Square – We serve as an Ironman sponsor for the annual Run Around the Square in Regent Square every August. In existence for more than 30 years, Run Around the Square is the largest neighborhood footrace in Pittsburgh.
Shadyside Ice Melt – We try to keep the Shadyside shopping districts pet friendly by offering pet-safe ice melt to all Shadyside Chamber of Commerce members at wholesale cost. Traditional rock salt and ice melt can burn animal paws, and is toxic to animals if they ingest it.
